futbol game [21 Apr 2008|11:45am]
Dan and I went up to LA on Saturday. We had dinner on the Queen Mary, which was pretty cool.

Then we were off to watch the LA Galaxy soccer game.

That had to have been the funnest sporting event I have been to because the crowd is totally into it the whole game. The first Galaxy goal was pretty sweet - Beckham kicked it near the goal and Donovan did a diving header and made it in. Then he got up and started talking smack to the guy that was defending him. Nice! (I think that guy had almost taken him out earlier.) The game ended up being a tie, 2-2. Beckham had 2 assists, Donovan had 2 goals. Good times. Can’t wait to go watch another game. Pics here:

Feel free to make this your desktop background as I have done. Teehee :)

March stuff [31 Mar 2008|10:42am]
Wow, it’s almost April already. Here’s a quick update with mostly kid’s bdays.

This month Belinda turned 3! I still can’t believe it. We celebrated at Chuck E. Cheese again this year. When we first arrived, Belinda yelled hi and ran up to us in her cute little Tinkerbell outfit. She kept talking to me about the different games like the coconut game “where you throw the coconut into the hole” (skee-ball). After her party celebration I took her around to play the games she wanted to play. They told me she kept yelling, “I want Sandy!” whenever they took her to go do stuff (like say goodbye to her Godparents). Aww.

Gonzo invited me to Bela’s bday party again this year. She turned 4. I asked Bela how old she was and she held up four fingers. I told her, “Wow, you’re a big girl now!” to which she replied, “I’m a little big girl.” Haha. The party was fun and Gonzo’s family is so nice.

In other bday news, Kendra turned 6 on Saturday. We missed her party at Chuck E. Cheese this weekend, but I was happy we were able to see her open her presents from us (a week early) because we went home for Easter.

Saw a lot of family back at home. Easter was fun at Aunt Virginia’s. Good food, good company, the kids did an egg hunt, the adults got to play some games in the evening, and who could forget the Rocky ringtone that lasted forrrrevvvver! We had to come back on Monday but not before some Me-N-Eds (yum). My mom finished her jury duty service that day which was great. We were able to spend some time with her before we had to leave and we also got to hear about the 187. Here are some Easter pics:

Cute bunny!

Finally, our soccer team won our playoff game on Friday so we had a 50 min. break and then we played in the championship game. We won 5-4! I scored the 4th goal of the game to make it 4-2 with 30 seconds left in the first half. That felt good. Special thanks to our loyal fans for coming out to watch us: Melanie, Joehn, Daniel, and Chris (who flew out from Chicago JUST to watch us…jk).

The champs! We both scored in the big game.

It was Gonzo’s bday on Thursday. I couldn’t meet up for his lunch that day, but I drove to San Marcos for HH and met up with the V boys once they got off work on Friday. It was fun. I was laughing and smiling so much that it started hurting. At one point they were calling everyone by their middle names. They were all trying to guess mine (guessing crazy names of course), but Rocco guessed right on his second try. Then Mike said, “What’s wrong with that? That’s a nice name…much better than Sandra. OH!” haha punk.

I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving. We couldn't go out of town since Dan got off work at 3:30am Thursday morning and had to go into work at 2:30am Friday morning (ugh Black Friday). We ended up going to Mike and Mel's for Thanksgiving this year. We hung out, ate too much good food and dessert, and then we hung out by the fireplace and roasted chestnuts. It was a very nice Thanksgiving.

Dan's favorite part of the evening was when [Melanie's brother] Frank's father-in-law made the toast, "To children! And to Mike not being lazy!". :) Wonderful! Mike and Mel said he usually toasts everything like: "To the couches! May they keep our backs comfortable!" haha.

Birthday happy hour before our soccer game on Friday. Good times until we were at the game and Mel collided with some guy and broke her fibula. I keep replaying that night in my head. We’re all laughing and having a good time at HH and then I see her rolling on the ground in pain. Ugh, poor Melanie. I wish there was something I could do. She’s a trooper though. I’m positive she’ll be out there cheering us on Thursday nights and possibly Friday’s too.

Received a bday present today from the cutest and sweetest 2 year old. I even let her open it after she asked, "Sanny, can I open your present pwease?". It's hard not to. Especially when she also says stuff like, "I love you so much" and leans over to give me a hug. :)

Dan was on vacation last week so we decided to go to Vegas to get away for a few days. That was a fun trip. While we didn’t win any money, we did go to a show. We saw Phantom of the Opera. Two words…freakin awesome! I’m glad we saw that. The only downfall to the trip was that I wanted to go to Jet and it was closed the days we were there. Oh well, next time.

Saturday morning Dan and I headed up to San Clemente for Chay’s 40 minus 12 birthday celebration. We had lunch on the pier, did some hiking (Will has all the cool hiking pictures on his page), and just hung out. It was tons of fun. I hope you had a good time Chay!

We drove home Sunday morning and then it was off to John’s for some BBQ and football. Good stuff.

Sports update [12 Sep 2007|05:13pm]
My new sports seasons have started off well. The only shame is that I am going to stay permanently injured because I won't stop playing long enough to heal up.

My softball team is starting off in C league this year. Last year we got bumped up to C and then we got spanked. Hopefully we can hang this year. We’re off to a decent start at 1-0-1.

For indoor soccer we’ve played two games and we’re 1-1. I’m hoping to score at least 5 goals this season. I got off to a good start last week by scoring one. Early in the game on Friday I fell down and tried to get up quickly because the ball was still near me (you can’t play the ball when you’re on the ground). I think I got up TOO fast and I ended up falling again like a dork. Mikey teased me about it and said my new nickname is Bambi because that’s who I looked like when I was falling. He also said people are going to think that Bambi is my stripper name, haha. Besides that, I did get some good compliments from him. He says I’m the best girl on the team. I’m still not good but the key is that I hustle. He also said he plays better with people like me, Dan Veres, and Puma because we do hustle and give it our all. :)

Vavi started up again last night. We won too! Last season we won zero games so winning was a nice change. Here’s a pic of the “RB crew” as Jose called us.

Thursday afternoon Dan sends me a text and asks if I wanted to go to the Charger game that night with Johnny and Jen. Of course!! Chargers won, yay! I have to admit, I felt a little conflicted at times seeing that Niner uniform (even though I haven’t been able to watch them since Steve Young left). I tried to look for Trent Dilfer but I’m blind and couldn’t see the names on the jerseys. (Now I know he’s #12.) The game was fun and I hope we can go with Johnny and Jen to another game sometime this year. Next time we’ll have to take the SLR.

I’m excited about football season this year. BBQ’s every Sunday at John’s! We started a week early with a BBQ and our fantasy football draft on Saturday. I got 8th pick which totally sucked. I didn’t get any of the players I was really hoping to get. At least I got the kicker I wanted.

Family portrait haha

In other news – Feliz cumpleaños Daniel!!!!!!! I hope you have a wonderful birthday d00d.

Didn’t update last week because I wasn’t feeling all that well, but I played in the NG championship softball game and the team I was on won. I’m a pseudo-champion! Okay, I shouldn’t say that. It wasn’t MY team that won, but it was the team that was trying to recruit me and Dan V. in the beginning of the season. I played with Dan Hyte’s team whenever they were short on players, so I was like their adopted teammate. They were all very encouraging and I always had a great time with them. I’m happy that they were the champs. They totally deserved it. They worked hard and played some great ball to get to the championship game. I feel very lucky that they asked me to be a part of their playoff journey (almost immediately after they knocked my team out of contention mind you).

Saturday night Dan and I drove up to Santa Ana to celebrate Nguyen and Michelle FINALLY getting married! Congrats to them. They were the first ones we knew to get engaged and almost the last ones to get married.

MFA was in town on Sunday so we decided to meet up with her and Frankie for dinner in Old Town. I’m glad we got to see her since our plans to visit her on our last trip to SF didn’t work out so well.

Say APPLE! [06 Aug 2007|01:33pm]
Went to the game Friday night and watched Vinnie Chulk blow our lead. Ugh!! I missed Bond’s 755 HR on Saturday, but that’s because I was at Mikey’s wedding.

The wedding was a blast. The ceremony was in Old Town, after that we went to John’s to kill some time, then we carpooled down to Shelter Island for the reception. It was so nice having everyone together again. I miss that. I think everyone enjoyed dancing the night away (especially Joehn!).

I had an interesting conversation with some of the Chicago boys. They asked if I was a Cali girl and when I said I was they asked if I had a Cali accent. I said, “No, I don’t have any accent.” One of the guys said, “Say ‘apple’.”, so I did and at the same time all three of them said, “Yeah, you have a Cali accent!”. Huh?!?!?! I heard no difference in the way they said it and the way I said it no matter how many times we said the word. Funny stuff. Then they started asking me how I knew Mike and Mel. When I told them I used to work with Mikey, Chris shouted out, “I met you before!”. I kept shaking my head until he said, “I watched you guys play soccer and then we went out for drinks”. It finally clicked and then he told the other guys, “Yeah, me and Sandy go waaay back....to February.” Haha.

Congratulations to Mike and Mel! Here are my pics from the night:

Sunday was another baseball day. Emil and I went to try and see Barry hit the record breaking HR, but he didn’t play. Noooooo. We got to see Noah though, yay! But the Giants lost again. Noooooo. Noah got taken out pretty early in the game and then the Giants ran out of pitchers. They have gotten very creative this year (like at the Battle of the Bay game we went to in SF). This time, two of our starting pitchers came in as relievers. I didn’t take many pics, but here are a few.

[29 Jul 2007|09:59pm]
Friday night was the playoffs for my indoor soccer team. We had to play the first place team in the semi-finals and I was pretty sure we’d lose (they were 8-1-1 and we were 3-5-2). We played a great game though. I even scored 2 goals!! I should have had a hat trick, but I missed the other goal. Dangit. We had no girl subs for this game so that sucked, but I was pretty happy with my performance and the goals only pumped me up even more. We ended up winning that game 7-6 and had to play in the championship game an hour later.

The team we played in the championship game was pretty tough. We fought back and ended up tying the game 7-7. What happens next? A shoot out. 3 guys and 2 girls have to go one-on-one with the goalie for 5 seconds and my team chose me as one of the girls to be in the shoot out. I was sick to my stomach because I suck and had no idea what to do. I was the 4th person to go for my team. By then the score was 2-2. I did my thing, missed my shot, tried to kick it in off the wall-bounce but time ran out. The final score for the shoot out was 2-2. Now it was time for sudden death and that’s where we lost the game. It was a super exciting game and it was fun having a big crowd watching and cheering. It looks like I ended up in 2nd place again, just like in Escondido softball. Sigh. I will be the champion of something…someday! Here are some pics from the championship game:

Saturday morning Dan and I flew up to San Francisco to go to another Giants game. We were just there last month, but this time we went with my family. In the 4th inning my sister’s bf proposed to her with a big screen message:

He even made the ring box look like a little baseball. It was cute. I wish I had made a video of it because everyone in our section was standing up and cheering when he did it. As for the game, the Giants were losing pretty much the whole time but they came back to win it in the bottom of the 9th! It was so awesome to yell, jump, and cheer with the whole stadium when they won. No Barry HRs though. Hopefully we’ll see him do it when he comes to SD.

Gooooooooooooooooooooooal!!! [16 Jul 2007|09:04am]
Went to happy hour after work on Friday with John, Joehn, and Mikey and then went to my soccer game. It was awesome because we won and I scored my first goal! Dan scored 3 and I set him up for at least one of those. On my goal I got a nice set up from Mikey. He kicked it to me and I one-touched it in. That was the greatest feeling. I threw up my hands and I could see the people in the stands who were cheering for our team throw up their hands as well. Then for the game winner, I got in front of the defender and hit the ball with my knee over to Mikey. He juked out the goalie and scored. The final score was 5-4. I'm glad Dan and Joehn were cheering us on and able to see my first goal.

Mikey: "Good night for team Northrop. We scored all the goals!"
then 5 seconds later
Joehn: "Hey, I think you guys scored all the goals" :)

Weekend highlights also include me getting my Wii (Yay!) and hanging out at Mikey's Sat. night. Good times.

"Is that him? No? I don't think he exists..." [10 Jul 2007|03:09pm]
I’ve actually had some fans at my last few games. Dan came out to watch me play soccer again at Sportsplex Friday night. He even invited some friends (Jen, Johnny, and Tina) to join him. After my game was over we used our tokens to get some beer and we hung out and watched some softball game going on before heading back to our place to play Cranium as a drinking game.

Yesterday we had another playoff game for my Escondido softball league, but even more importantly it was…Dan’s birthday! Happy Birthday to Dan!

We won our first game and made it to the championship game so I thought for sure we’d be crowned the champions on his bday (best bday present ever imo). Unfortunately, it was not in the cards. It was disappointing, especially since I had a big support group out there watching and cheering for me. (Okay, more like embarrassing me with those noisemakers and making me turn red when I had to bat) After the game we went out for some drinks. That was a lot of fun and I'm glad (my) Dan got to see how hilarious everyone is - like Cliff trying to get out of his "Just blame me for you being out drinking late" line. I love my teammates. I can’t wait until August when we can start the next season.

Can't you see the sadness in our faces after losing THE big game?

Two words…..NEVER AGAIN!

Good times Saturday night (at least from what I can remember). Thanks to everyone for coming out and helping kill almost 2 liters of Patron. I still can’t believe we finished that thing. I count 9 shots from the pictures - that’s about 7 too many for me. The last thing I remember was getting those mudslide drinks but even around that time it’s kind of fuzzy.

Caballes, Joehn (Mission Systems) says:
yeah that was like the same time you were stumbling
Caballes, Joehn (Mission Systems) says:
then after that you disappeared

Silva, Sandra (Mission Systems) says:
haha dang

good times

From the pics I can see I was still taking shots after I blacked out. I also see that James came, but I don’t remember him being there at all. Crazy night. I hope you guys had fun!!

First shot of the night where everyone still looks normal.

Friday was Joehn's birthday and I convinced him to let me throw him a bday lunch. There's nothing good going on at work, so we need any reason to get together and celebrate something happy. After work we got together at Friday's for some drinks. We hung out there for awhile and then a few of us decided to go bowling. Good stuff.

Haven’t updated in awhile. Too busy. Long weekend was super fun. I’d post some pictures, but Dan might ground me. =P
Anyway, it was back to the usual routine yesterday. Besides the fun weekend, things may not be all that great, but I’ll tell you what is great…friends! I had lunch with Dan Veres and he knew just what to say to get me feeling better and pumped up again. I only wish I had listened to him a little bit better before. Oh well, as long as I learn it one of these times. Then to brighten my day even more, after lunch he emailed me with this awesome picture of his dog Mr. Miyagi:

I was busting up so much I had to make it my desktop background at work. Besides, who can stay or feel anything but happy after seeing that picture? :) I smile every time I see it. Thanks Dan!

After what felt like a super long day yesterday, I had soccer. Unfortunately our season will come to an end after next week. We aren’t going to make the playoffs but it was another fun season. I can’t wait to play again, and we’ve even found people we can practice with in Carlsbad on off Fridays. Sweaty awesomeness.

To finish the night off, we had some Blueberry Wheat and played darts at Callahans. Good stuff. I am the ruler of the bullseyes, but those dang 20s are impossible!

Sidewinders [01 May 2007|04:19pm]
The first half of the Escondido softball season has come to an end. I guess we ended up in first place again with 4 wins and 1 loss because we got bumped up to C league. At least we automatically make the playoffs. Maybe we’ll have more games like last week where everyone was cheering, screaming, and jumping up and down when we won it in the bottom of the 9th with two outs. Awesome! That or we’ll just lose, hah. I guess it’s time to see what we’re made of!
